Sensory-Wise Communication

The sensory-wise communication method is an integrated approach that incorporates sensory organization and total communication procedures using multi-modality teaching strategies in social based activities. This program can begin during infancy and it focuses on the use of a developmental approach to augment language and social skill development.

This method utilizes a sensory approach to develop ingrained learning through involvement with social-based activities. Each child's sensory processing needs are addressed through daily programming and incorporated into a multi-modality learning approach to encourage generalization across environments instead of providing the child with multiple drills and trials to develop robotic responses.  The skills are taught within the developmental sequence to develop the foundation skills for learning.  Learning is a stepping stone process in which skills build upon one another and when one sequence is interrupted or skipped the individual lacks the ability to generalize by relating new information to previously acquired information.

The Sensory-Wise communication method will help the child learn the skills necessary to make requests, to engage in self-management, to communicate and to share emotional development. Through the use of this method replacement skills are developed to improve generalization and positive behaviors are developed using reinforcement procedures.
